Cell Phone Policy

FCHS CELL PHONE POLICY 

•    1st OFFENSE - 1 DAY IN-SCHOOL-SUSPENSION - PARENTS MUST COME TO THE SCHOOL TO PICK UP PHONE

•    2nd OFFENSE - 2 DAY IN-SCHOOL SUSPENSI0N - PHONE WILL BE KEPT IN THE OFFICE FOR ONE MONTH

•    3rd OFFENSE - 1 DAY OUT-OF-SCHOOL SUSPENSION - PHONE WILL BE KEPT IN THE OFFICE FOR 2 MONTHS

•   4TM OFFENSE - PRINCIPAL'S DISCRETION

 Students will be allowed to use their cell phones before school, during transitions, in classrooms with teacher permission for INSTRUCTIONAL purposes only, at break, at lunch and after school.

  • Much like college, when students crossthe classroom threshold enteringthe classroom their cell phones should not be not visible. As students exitthe classroom, their cell phones should not be visible until they cross your classroom threshold exiting.
  • Students will not be allowed to use/have visible cell phones during assemblies/guest speakers.
  • ***The same penalties that have always been in place at FCHS will still apply for students who have their cell phone out at inappropriate times or if the cell phone goes off at inappropriate times.

What is an instructional use of a cell phone?

  • Any instructional activity that incorporates the many uses of today's cell phones during a lesson.

What are some examples of inappropriate instructional uses of a cell phone?

  • Class finishes 5 minutes early and the teacher says, "We finished early today and you have 5 extra minutes. You may pull out your cell phones for free time".
  • Any free time on cell phones (ex. after major tests, in the library, at P.E., if the class has a sub, etc.)
  • A student asks to go to the restroom and uses their phone along the way

 How is this information being promoted?

  • Tiger TV News will be running spots on the relaxed cell phone policy the week before it begins.
  • The Times Record will have a front page article concerning the policy.
  • Flyers on the policy will be placed in the school.
  • A schoolcast will be sent regarding the policy.
  • The FCHS school website will have information on the policy.
